US Army Corps of Engineers Project

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) contracted DTS to upgrade the tracking technology on the stabilized antennas of their vessels.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is made up of approximately 34,600 Civilian and 650 military members. Their mission is to provide quality, responsive engineering services to the nation including:

  • Planning, designing, building and operating water resources and other civil works projects (Navigation, Flood Control, Environmental Protection, Disaster Response, etc.)
  • Designing and managing the construction of military facilities for the Army and Air Force. (Military Construction)
  • Providing design and construction management support for other Defense and federal agencies. (Interagency and International Services)

Solution

They needed reliable technology that would occupy less space. They requested additional bandwidth to conduct business more efficiently, and more reliable radio service to communicate between headquarters and vessels as well as out-of-band management for remote diagnostics.Solution DTS installed Seatel 4006 antennas on each vessel which occupied 50% less space and used the latest tracking technology. We installed idirect modems with TDMA technology which enabled the USACE to increase their bandwidth drastically with cisco gear to provide for crystal clear analog and digital voice on each vessel. A radio over IP link was installed which enabled the USACE to have unlimited radio coverage of there vessels. All communications were linked into DTS’s earth station from the USACE’s office via a T1 which enabled the USACE’s network to be linked to each vessel. Cellular to ethernet converters were installed for remote diagnostics and out of band management.

Products and Services used by DTS

All of the clients previous servers and equipment were able to be interfaced into DTS’s equipment. A router was added at the USACE’s headquarters to interace to DTS’s earth station to route the USACE’s network. All equipment was purchased through our vendors. Seatel, Idirect, and Cisco  all contributed in supplying upgraded equipment for the USACE.  Icom assisted in the configuration for the radio over IP solution.

Services Provided by Other Companies

DTS was offered assistance by Iconvergence in the Cisco configuration and Icom provided recommendations on specific radio configurations.
